[내가 뽑은 2006년의 뮤비들] (3) Sandi Thom - If I Was A Punk Rocker

전형적인 영국식 인디 포크 가수였던 샌디 톰(Sandi Thom)은 인터넷 라디오로 자신의 지하실 라이브를 생중계했고, 결국 그것이 음반의 발매로 이어져 이 싱글 하나로 영국 내에서 일약 스타덤에 올랐다. 하지만, 이 곡이 가지는 진정한 의미는 모두가 빠른 자본주의의 시계 속에 사는데 익숙해져버린 2000년대에 이렇게 '저항의 시대'에 대한 향수를 지닌 젊은 급진주의자가 과연 존재하고 있다는 것에 대한 안도의 한숨이다. 물론 표현이 가정법이라는 것이 좀 한계일 순 있지만, 현재 우리가 잃어가는 것이 무엇인가를 정확하게 짚어낸 가사는 분명 많은 생각할 거리를 우리에게 제공한다.
  그리고 또 한 가지 매력적인 부분이 이 뮤직비디오인데, 원테이크 기법과 속도 조절기법을 적절히 잘 조화한 이 작품은 역시 저예산을 갖고도 사람들에게 샌디 톰이라는 가수의 이미지, 그녀의 목소리, 노래의 메시지를 함께 알릴 수 있었다는 점에서 올해의 다른 비디오 시상식에서는 상을 못 탔을 지라도 이 내맘대로 시상식에 오를 자격은 충분하다고 여긴다.
