Def Leppard - Nine Lives

데프 레파드(Def Leppard)의 신보 [Songs From The Sparkle Lounge]가 드디어 지난 4월 25일 미국 시장에서 발매되었다. (아마 국내에도 이번달 쯤엔 발매될 것 같다.) 첫 싱글이 컨트리 싱어 팀 맥그로우(Tim McGraw)와 함께 부른 컨트리 록 필이 나는 로큰롤 <Nine Lives>인데, 90년대 후반부터 2000년대 초반까지의 이들의 몇 장의 맥없는 앨범들의 오류를 이번 앨범과 이 싱글에서는 어느 정도 극복해낸 것 같다. 물론 80년대의 명반 [Pyromania]와 [Hysteria]에 비하면 아쉬움은 남지만 말이다. 그러나, 지금이 팝 메탈의 시대도 아닐진대, 마치 본 조비(Bon Jovi)처럼 생존의 확실한 지혜를 터득한 이들의 모습이 그리 밉게만 보이지는 않는다. 분위기는 컨트리 필일 지언정, 그들의 트레이드마크인 경쾌한 4박자 로큰롤 멜로디 라인과 깔끔한 스트로크의 울림은 여전하지 않은가?
