Kenny Chesney (with The Wailers) - Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven

  케니 체스니(Kenny Chesney)는 미국 내에서의 엄청난 인기에 비한다면 음악으로서 우리나라에 알려진 건 거의 전무하다. 이유는 단 한가지. 그가 컨트리 뮤지션이기 때문이다. 심지어 빌보드 Hot 100에까지 몇 곡을 올려놓았음에도 그를 기억하는 한국인은 오직 영화 팬들일지도 모른다. 왜냐면 그는 '브리짓 존스의 일기'로 우리에게 잘 알려진 르네 젤위거(Renne Zelwegor)와 결혼했다가 이혼당한 이혼남이니까.

  그러나 1993년에 데뷔한 케니는 현재까지 30곡 이상의 빌보드 컨트리 차트 Top 10 히트곡을 제조했고, 그 절반에 해당하는 15곡을 1위에 올렸다. 그리고 5개의 컨트리 뮤직상을 수상했고, 현재 미국 내 컨트리 가수들 가운데 가장 공연 수익이 좋은 뮤지션으로도 알려져있다. 그가 최근 빌보드 앨범 차트 정상에 올린 13번째 앨범인 [Lucky Old Sun]에서의 두 번째 싱글 컷인 이 트랙은 놀랍게도 밥 말리(Bob Marley)의 백업 밴드였던 웨일러스(The Wailers)와 협연한 트랙으로 컨트리 록과 레게의 느낌이 재미있게 섞여있다. 특히, 이 곡은 원래 같은 레이블에 속해있는 조지 스트레이트(George Straits)에게 가려던 곡이었으나, 그가 이 곡을 최근 앨범에 수록하지 않으면서 그의 차지가 되었고, 역시 최근 컨트리 차트 1위를 거머쥐었다. (현재 Hot 100 싱글차트에서도 40위권에 올라있다.) 노래 가사는 대충 말해서 "천천히 즐길거 즐기다, 예수님은 나중에 믿을꼐요(교회는 나중에 다닐꼐요.)"라는 주제? 미국인들 다운 유머 감각을 담은 가사다.
