New Kids On The Block - Summertime (재결성 후 첫 신곡!!)

  지난 번 어떤 공연을 보러 갔다가 한국 EMI 관계자 분을 전철역까지 모셔다드리면서 본인이 그 옛날 뉴키즈 온 더 블럭(New Kids On The Block)의 광팬이었다는 고백을 들은 적이 있는데, 그와 동시에 전 멤버들이 모두 모여 재결합 전 세계 투어를 계획중이라는 소식까지 덤으로 들을 수 있었다. 아니, 왠 철지난 뉴키즈? 라고 하실 분도 있으시겠지만, 영국의 테이크 댓(Take That)도 돌아온 마당에 그들이 돌아오지 말란 법도 없지 않은가? 게다가 이제 그들에게 열광했던 10대들이 충분히 그들에 대한 향수를 느낄 만한 시간이 돌아오기에 가장 적절한 시점이라는 점에서 그들의 재결합과 복귀 앨범 준비는 시의적절하지 않을 수 없다.
  그리고... 얼마전 뉴욕 록펠러 플라자에서 가진 NBC [Today] 프로그램의 특별 무대를 비를 맞으며 그들을 보러 몰려온 팬들로 인해 성공적으로 가졌던 NKOTB의 94년 <Dirty Dawg>이후 14년만의 첫 싱글인 <Summertime>이 팬들의 오랜 기다림을 달래주러 일단 아이튠즈에서 첫 선을 보였다. 곡이야 시즌 송 분위기가 나게 적절히 팝적이지만, 이들의 적절한 '보컬 역할 분담'의 매력을 느낄 수 있기에 그 시절 비록 골수 팬은 아니었음에도, 감회에 젖기에 충분하다.
